What is the difference between Biocides, Disinfectant/Sanitizers and Antimicrobial Agents?

Biocides are active substances that above certain concentration levels and defined conditions will kill cells within a specified time period.

Disinfectant/Sanitizer are formulations containing active substances that are safe for application to inanimate surfaces and which kill specified groups of disease producing microorganisms within a specific time periods.

Antimicrobial agents are active substances that have adverse effects on the growth or survival of microorganisms.
